Michael Bevan appointed Director of Cricket Operations

01-May-2018 Easts Dolphins will have an Australian cricket legend at the helm next season following the appointment of Michael Bevan to a newly created role, Director of Cricket Operations.

Bevan, who was the world’s top ranked ODI batsman during the late nineties has had a long association with Easts following four successful years as Head Coach from 2013-2016.

As part of this new role, Michael will oversee and manage all the coaching programmes of both the senior and junior teams as well as using his vast experience to mentor younger coaches and create leadership programmes for captains.

"It's great to be able to lend my experience to so many young cricketers and make a difference in the Easts cricket community."

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Easts so far and am looking forward to the challenge of this new role, which covers over 800 cricketers from seniors to juniors so there's a lot to work through."

"With so many players, it's critical to have a functioning structure and plan to maximise the enjoyment for everyone and create an environment where players and teams can improve results."

The position is an important step forward forward for Easts to continue to foster local youngsters into the senior ranks as a pathway to playing for NSW and Australia. Currently, the club has five players in the NSW squad in Peter Nevill, Nic Maddinson, Harry Conway, Will Somerville and Henry Thornton.

"Michael was not only one of the finest cricketers to play the game but he also has an incredibly high level analytical and tactical ability which we have seen in his previous coaching stints at Easts,” Club President Jim Maxwell said.

"It's a great opportunity for our current coaches and players to learn from someone of his experience - we're delighted to have him overseeing all of our current programmes."

Bevan’s first assignment will be to undertake a review of the current coaching and player resources at both senior and junior level as part of the planning for the 2018/19 season.
