Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club announces Maddy Darke as its Girls Cricket Ambassador30-Oct-2019 Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club announces Maddy Darke as its Girls Cricket Ambassador Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club is delighted and excited to announce local junior Maddy Darke
as its Girls Cricket Ambassador for the 2019/20 season.
Darke, 18, began playing cricket at Easts when she was seven and went onto play four years in the Dolphins juniors' cricket system, before moving onto Universities and eventually women’s grade cricket.
Maddy's rise to the top has been swift, progressing through the elite pathways from the under 13s and 15s academies and eventually competing at the 18s National Championships, before having a breakout year in 2019.
In that time Maddy spent an extended period at the Bupa National Cricket Centre during winter with the National Performance Squad, before getting selected for Australia A's tour of England midway through the year. Maddy made her debut for The Sydney Sixers WBBL Team last week in Sydney.
Currently holding a NSW Breakers and Sydney Sixers WBBL contract, Maddy expressed her delight at the prospect of being an ambassador for girls cricket in her local area, saying “I’m extremely excited and passionate about promoting girls cricket in the local community. Easts
Dolphins was my junior club and I am very happy to be appointed their Ambassador for Girls Cricket”
“I’m pretty passionate as someone who has noticed a lack of girls cricket in the area, and I’m pretty keen to help improve that type of thing”
Club President Mr Jim Maxwell AM expressed his enthusiasm for Maddy’s appointment. “We are as a club are very focused on promoting girls cricket development and pathways and girls cricket participation in the local community. Maddy’s role is very exciting in helping us
in that process. We also look forward to watching Maddy’s career evolve successfully too”
A wicket-keeper batsman on the pitch, Maddy lists Adam Gilchrist and Alyssa Healy as her idols in the sport when she was growing up, with the Dolphins junior hoping to emulate Alyssa Healy in the coming years of her career.
Away from the cricket pitch Maddy is studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at ACU and has a fond regard for music, particularly the drums and guitar.
Maddy will be seen coaching at various Easts Girls Cricket Training Sessions, Girls Cricket Academies and key events through out the season.
