Time out with a Dolphin

Max Abbott and the Time out with a Dolphin team provide a completely random get to know you questionnaire for some of the Easts cricket's most famous and beloved characters all in 60 seconds!

FOR the first edition of the new season Time Out with a Dolphin took to the streets of London to catch up with Sam Robson

Sam, you have been playing at Middlesex this season give a bit of an insight as to what thats like? Its been great...

I play about 4-5 days of cricket most weeks which is great and we are based at lords for most of our training and so on which is awesome. On top of that there is a fair bit of travelling around the country and staying together as a team for away games which is great for banter amongst the boys and 'team spirit'! we love the bant!

Now I know you love Waverley Oval but how does playing at Lords for your home ground compare? What are the showers like? change rooms?

Yes Max ur right i do enjoy Waverley Oval...especially with all the boys after a hard-fought PG's campaign...Lords is awesome of course with the pavilion and the great history and tradition of the ground...the showers and changerooms really are different league! Its a great place to play!

You have mentioned to me before the lunches at Lords matches are a sight to see and taste? What is it about it that makes it so good what can you expect to eat?

The lunches are outstanding...there are normally a few choices so i suppose thats the best thing about them

How did it feel to make your first ton?, A bit nervous in the 90's?

It was very pleasing to score my first hundred for the club. I was a bit nervous in the nineties but i got through so all in all it was a good day.

And how about off the field how have you found the London nightlife? Do the players go out together a lot?

Yeh its been great fun living in London...the city is always buzzing so as u can imagine a night out over here is good fun.

You play with former Easts player Tim Murtagh? How has he been going? Do the two of you ensure there is a Dolphin presence in the change rooms?

Murts is a great bloke as most of the boys who played with him would know and hes been Middlesexs most consistent seamer over the past 2 or 3 seasons. His bant around the sheds ensures theres always a dolphins presence lurking in the change rooms

When are you going to be back in action for Dolphins?

for the start of the coming season

Whats the first thing your going to do when you get home?
sleep and catch up with mates

If you were going to nominate an Easts player for Time out with a Dolphin next who would it be?

Definitely Jacob Taucher

Look out Jacob your next!

AFTER a bit of a spell Time Out with a Dolphin is back with newcomer opening batsman Chris Weeks.

Time Out with a Dolphin: Chris your new to the Club how have you found your experience so far?

Chris Weeks: It's been sensational, I have loved every minute of it

TOWAD: Nice answer, What are the main differences between playing here and in Melbourne?

CW: I think its a bit more old school playing here, its quite different the grounds are more traditional up here and the standard of cricket ... Well its hard to say pretty similar I'd say.

TOWAD: Youre living with First Grade wicketkeeper Peter Nevill how has it been living with him?

CW: I lived with him back in Melbourne so I'm pretty used to it.

TOWAD: What's the most annoying thing he does around the home?

CW: Probably having his girlfriend there mate(laughs) she's a thief

TOWAD: Is there anyone you have identified at Easts as the loosest cannon?

CW: Definately Chris Maurice for reasons that are probably best left not said.

TOWAD: No surprises there. So are you planning to stay up here in Sydney or are you just here for the one season?

CW: Im unsure about that at them moment but Im really enjoying my time here and the cricket, its a different experience so yeh we'll just see how we go.

TOWAD: Are there any venues you have taken a liking to on the circuit in your short time here?

CW: Definately hate Scruffy Murphy's I will never never go there again but the sheaf is good and the Eastern on a Wednesday night and the Greenwood I also enjoy. (looking at Sean Paul McGoldrick) By the way I just want to say I love SP look at him with his guns out there brilliant.

TOWAD: Well we might leave it on that note thank you for spending Time Out With a Dolphin.

In the second edition the Time Out with a Dolphin team caught up with new-comer Mitch Power.

Time Out with a Dolphin: Mitch you have decided to leave Tamworth and come down to Sydney this summer what was the reason that sparked the move?

Mitch Power: I guess just to come down and really train properly and for the experience of playing in the Sydney comp.

TOWAD: Why did you choose Easts?

MP: Well I already had a couple of mates down here and knew a few that used to play and they all enjoyed it so it was just easier to come here.

TOWAD: What's the main difference you have noticed from playing in the country to here?

MP: You train. Not much training up in the country so its good here to have proper sessions twice a week

TOWAD: Your living in Clovelly, have you started testing out the local beaches?

MP: I actually havent been in the water yet but hopefully Ill get in there soon.

TOWAD: What about the nightlife in Sydney?

MP: Yeh Im really enjoying the nightlife in Sydney its great having so many different places to go out.

TOWAD: So where are we most likely to find you at 2am Sunday Morning?

MP: Probably The Sheaf

TOWAD: Is there one guy who you have been able to identify as a loose cannon?

MP: Probably Chris Maurice, he loves a beer and always seems to be the last one to leave the club.

There was no better way to start the first edition with Club Captain Sean Paul McGoldrick. Although as I found after I published it perhaps there was a better way

Time out With a Dolphin: I'm here with Sean Paul McGoldrick on the first and much anticipated Time Out with a Dolphin. Sean What did you get up to in the off-season?
Sean Paul McGoldrick:
Did pre-season fitness with Gebes (Wayne Geber), which I thoroughly enjoyed and played a bit of soccer.
TOWAD: How did you go in the Soccer?
SP: Mate, heartbreaking loss in the Grand Final, we lost in penalty kicks …. But I got mine and that's all that really matters
TOWAD: You have been appointed Club Captain this season, what do you think your going to bring to the club?
SP: Gee, you ask the tough ones (long pause) just good vibes you know, just good vibes
TOWAD: How are you going to bring the good vibes?
SP: Well were looking to organise more stuff like a club poker night, themes, just really bringing the club together.
(Kirk Powell interrupts)
KP: Hey tell them how Lee cheated you out of a five for on the weekend
TOWAD: What happened to your five-for?
SP: Well I took my fourth and Lee (Kirk) scrapped me straight away. It was a gee up
TOWAD: What's the best thing about playing at Easts?
SP: (With Marc Hughes coming to stand behind him) Look probably playing with Hughesy is probably one of the greatest things about playing at Easts and just the boys and the good vibes.
TOWAD: And the worst?
SP: Playing with Kirk Rimmer
TOWAD: Off the field do you have any hobbies that perhaps we don't know about?
SP: Smashing piss and chasing bitches (laughs and claims he is joking)
TOWAD: What's your signature cooking dish?
SP: It's just recently turned to Special K with fruits and berries… its really good
TOWAD: So basically you just add fruit and milk.
SP: Nah the fruits already in there
TOWAD: So it's the milk pouring you have got down
SP: Yeh its all about the ratio
TOWAD: Just finally how would you rate Time out with a Dolphin so far?
SP: Pretty average actually.
