EASTS WHITE SCORE THIRD WIN!
Easts White were lined up against Coastal Barras for round 13 of the SEJCA U/10 competition.
Easts came into the game placed 10th on the ladder with Barras languishing at 13th.
Archie Hancock was Captain for the game and he won the toss and elected to bat. Our team was boosted with the return of Zac Carbo from a long absence, Jack Willis was 12th man for the game due to rotation.
Zac Carbo and Harry Whiteman opened for us and our batting innings was off to a great start with Zac Carbo smashing the very first ball of the innings to the square leg boundary for 4 runs, a great start!
After some early wickets Archie Hancock joined Zac and batted through to the halfway break adding 10 runs without loss.
At the halfway break Archie and Zac were instructed to push the run rate along a bit but the Barras bowling was very good and our guys were unable to break the field.
In the 14th over Zac was retired 11 not out, a great return from 7 weeks of being unable to play.
Ethan Mcdonald joined Archie in the middle but soon after that Archie popped one up in the air to covers and was caught out for 4 runs.
With the score 7/53 in the 21st over, Harry Cooper joined Joseph Walsh and the pair of them established a new partnership. Harry pushed the ball around for singles allowing Joseph, who by this stage was on fire, to continue to build on his fantastic innings. It was the 2nd last over and Joseph hit his 3rd boundary to be retired not out on 20 off 14 balls, pushing the score along to 7/73 after a 20 run partnership with Harry. Carter Nicklin joined Harry in the middle in the last over. Harry
took the initiative of being the established batsman and and soon dispatched a loose delivery to the square leg boundary. The pair added 9 runs to the conclusion of the innings, we finished on 7/82, Harry not out 11, Carter not out 1.
We started our defence with a maiden over by Max Cotton. Then Archie, Ethan, Zac, Joseph and Harry Cooper all bowled conceding very few runs. At the 10 over stage Barras were 0/20 compared to our 3/26, the match evenly poised.
Where we let ourselves down was in the field, a lack of communication amongst our boys, when there was communication it was more negative than positive, too much arguing and bickering amongst each other over fielding positions and a lack of backing up either side of the wicket. Our boys were often not watching the ball and numerous over throws resulted. However, in the 13th over some individual brilliance by our substitute fielder Jack Willis resulted in a run out and our first wicket, Jack
throwing down the stumps to lift our spirits coming to the drinks break.
At the 13 overs halfway mark we took a drinks break and addressed the issues that were hampering our defence of the match. The game was still a battle, either team's to win with Barras at 1/29 in comparison to our 3/33 at the same stage.
It came down to the last 3 overs, Barras had enough wickets in hand to bat through the innings and they only needed 18 runs in the last 3 overs, very possible considering they scored 20 off the previous 3.
Max Cotton, Joseph Walsh and Harry Whiteman would bowl the last 3 overs, the boys lifted and chased everything down in the field, the bowling was tight and in the end we restricted the opposition to 5 runs off the last 3 giving them a total of 3/70 and a win to us by 12 runs.
Well done boys! Our third win of the season. A fantastic effort and well deserved considering the efforts by many over the holiday break. This will certainly consolidate our position on the ladder.
Special mentions must go to Max Cotton, 3 overs, no wickets, 3 maidens, Harry Whiteman 2 maidens, Joseph Wightwick 1 maiden. Thanks to all our boys who fielded for Coastal Barras and congratulations to Joseph Wightwick a match winning effort with the bat, 20 not out off 14 balls to claim man of the match.
EASTS JUNIORS ON A ROLL IN 09/10
WITH a record number of kids registered with Easts it is perhaps little surprise to see the Dolphins performing strongly across the juniors divisions.
Midway through November Easts have a team in the lead of six of the seven competition and five teams that still remain undefeated.

Some outstanding batting performances have been through the teams.
In the batting Jack Soepono from the under 9's in 7 innings has only been dismissed once and averages 84.
In the Under 12's James Eather in 5 innings is averaging an incredible 156.
